Meeting with a Remarkable Tree

These three watercolours are part of an ongoing series exploring trees. I am honoured to have met

this particular tree, a River Red Gum here in the Western Plains of Victoria. To spend a day

painting and drawing in the presence of a grand old tree, is a wondrous experience: it helps

to quieten the mind and to restore a feeling of connection that is so often lacking in our

daily lives.

The following quote by the conservationist, Rachel Carson captures all what I think matters most:

To have eyes that are awake to the wonders and realities of the universe about us, the

less taste we shall have for destruction.
